School meals are free in the 2021-2022 school year
Soldotna, August 6, 2021—The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will provide free meals to students who attend a school participating in the National School Lunch and Breakfast program. A current Free and Reduced meal application is not required to receive these free meal benefits in the 2021-2022 school year; however, it will be required to be eligible for other federal assistant programs.
Free and Reduced applications approved for the 2020-2021 school year will expire on September 28, 2021. Parents and guardians who have students who want to qualify for other federal assistance programs and benefits associated with the meal application will need to fill out an application. All applications will be accepted online through the State of Alaska portal at http://mealapp.kpbsd.org. If someone does not have access to the internet, each school will have a few paper applications in the school office.
Menu: Due to national supply chain shortages, KPSBD student nutrition is unable to commit to a predetermined menu. However, the list of carbohydrates for menu items is located on the KPBSD nutrition webpage. If anyone has a student with health and allergy issues, kindly call your local school kitchen to request the menu for the week.
Get It and Go meals will only be available for students who are enrolled in a school participating in the National School Lunch and Breakfast program, and in the 2021-2022 school year, will only be offered if there is a local school closure due to COVID-19 and the school shifts to remote education delivery. Pickup would be each day between 12:00–12:30. Regrettably, this year Get It and Go Meals are not offered to Connections Homeschool students or for 100% Remote learners.
